Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The nature scenery of California and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater paddling here in the Northern Sierra Nevada is a great experience. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section of Mokelumne River is 6 miles long
and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Ponderosa Way to Highway 49 Bridge section is one of them. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. No
matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip.
Briefly about the general area: Mokelumne River gets a common amount of precipitation; of all the months in a year January is the one with the most rain; August on the other hand is the driest. Rich Gulch is a nice location to explore. Throughout the long summer days highs here at Mokelumne River reach the 90's; the overnight is a tad colder of course, ordinarily
in the 50's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 50's while Mokelumne River nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the 30's.
