If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. This stretch of New River in California is 19.8 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. New River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the E Fork confluence to Trinity River stretch is the
only one. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The wonderful California scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down
the stream beats anything. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near.
Briefly about the general area: If you're here, you might as well check out Dry Gulch. Throughout the summertime months at New River temperatures are usually in the 90's, and the nighttime is a bit cooler of course, ordinarily in the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the
50's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at New River drop into the 30's. New River is a pretty wet place usually with lots of rainfall; December is the wettest month with most rain, and July meanwhile is the driest month.
