California whitewater - Outlet Creek, Coast Ranges, Mendocino County

Mendocino county, Highway 101 bridge to Highway 162 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     12.2 miles
The scenic beauty of California and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you're coming from Ukiah it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the
page with more info on that. This section of Outlet Creek is 12.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. The Highway 101 bridge to Highway 162 section is the only paddling section along Outlet Creek. Whether you're whitewater rafting
or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. When you're paddling down a Coast Ranges river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.

Briefly about the general area:
Outlet Creek gets a large amount of water; during January this area sees the most rain,
