The wonderful Sierra County scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This section of Pauley Creek in California is 4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Great exercise and just being out on the
river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The wild scenery of the Northern Sierra Nevada is great. For all you camping people
there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. The put-in location is a short drive from Truckee-Grass Valley, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are no other stretches to paddle along Pauley Creek than the Second Divide Turnout to Downieville stretch.
Briefly about the general area: Having a great time in the Northern Sierra Nevada is simple. If the weather is fine here at Pauley Creek, you can go for a hike along the Second Divide Trail. Pauley
Creek is a good location of typical precipitation; January is when you get the most rain here, and July meanwhile is the driest month. Nearby First Divide is a magnificent location to go if you're at Pauley Creek, and the Third Divide Trail is a great hiking trail nearby. Summertime
brings highs in the 90's to Pauley Creek; the night is slightly cooler of course, mostly in the 40's. All through the wintertime highs are regularly in the 40's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Pauley Creek plunge into the 20's.
