The Second Divide Turnout to Downieville stretch of Pauley Creek in Sierra County is 4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A good workout
and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. The nature scenery of California and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This is the only paddling section along Pauley Creek. The beautiful
Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is an added bonus. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: The amount of rain that falls at Pauley Creek is close to the national average; January is when you get the most rain here while July is
frequently the driest month. Having a brilliant time in the Northern Sierra Nevada is easy. Near Pauley Creek you locate the Third Divide Trail which is a magnificent hiking trail. For the period of the warmest time of the year, highs frequently are in the 90's at Pauley Creek,
and during the night it cools down to the 40's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Pauley Creek. First Divide is a magnificent location to spend some time at, and there is a brilliant hiking trail nearby called the Second Divide Trail.
