The Second Divide Turnout to Downieville section of Pauley Creek in Sierra County is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. The starting location is a short drive from Truckee-Grass Valley, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon.
Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling
spots. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. Pauley Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Second Divide Turnout to Downieville section is the only one. The beauty of the Northern Sierra Nevada is a great plus for this river.
