California whitewater - Pit River, Southern Cascade Range, Shasta County

Shasta county, Pit 4 Dam to Pit 4 Powerhouse section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV     7 miles
The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. The Pit 4 Dam to Pit 4 Powerhouse section of Pit River in California is 7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV section. You might be into
whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other rivers. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The wild scenery of the Southern Cascade Range is great. The scenic beauty of California and the playfulness of the water beats anything.
