The wonderful California scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Pit River in Shasta County is 7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV section of whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll
have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The river winds through the Southern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. Whether you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The Pit 4 Dam to Pit 4 Powerhouse section is one of many paddling sections in this river system.
Briefly about the general area: Malinda Gulch is in the neighborhood of Pit River and is beyond doubt a great place to check out, and going for a hike on the Pacific Crest Trail - section 17 is always a great adventure. Pit River sees pretty high levels of rain; most of the rain falls
through January, and the driest month of the year is July. Through the summer highs here at Pit River get into the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 40's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 40's; night lows at Pit River throughout the wintertime typically dip into the 20's. This location, the Southern Cascade Range, has so much outdoors entertaining things.
