  The scenic beauty of California and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The wild scenery of the Southern Cascade Range is great. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more
    challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. This section of Pit River in Shasta County is 7 miles long and has been rated as a class IV section by American Whitewater. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Some
people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip.

Briefly about the general area:
Be careful coming to the Southern Cascade Range, you might not ever want to go home again. High temperatures at Pit River during the summer are in the 80's with night lows in the 40's. During the wintertime the highs are generally in the 40's; nighttime lows at Pit River through the wintertime usually descend into
 
the 20's.
Nearby Malinda Gulch is a splendid spot to go if you're at Pit River, and the Pacific Crest Trail - section 17 offers hiking at its best. The high level of precipitation makes Pit River a rather wet location; January is when you get the most rain here, and July is the month with the least moisture.
