The starting location is a reasonable drive from Redding, as you can see on the road map further down. The nature scenery of California and the water flowing gracefully down Pit River attract people from near and far. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The river winds through the Southern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. And of course,
there are campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep
in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too.
Briefly about the general area: That right there is heaps of enjoyable things already but it goes on, the Southern Cascade Range has it all. Summer at Pit River arrives with high temperatures
in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 40's. High temperatures all through the wintertime are normally in the 40's while Pit River nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the 20's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Pit River
a wet site; the month of January is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is July. Put some time aside to spend at Big Bend Hot Springs while you're here at Pit River; you can have a wonderful hiking adventure along the Nelson Flat Trail.
