If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The natural beauty of Lake/ Napa County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The Highway 29 to Lake Berryessa section
is the only paddling section along Putah Creek. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. There's camping available near Putah Creek. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the
river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The starting point is not too far from Napa, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section of Putah Creek is 16 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section.
Briefly about the general area: Putah Creek is near Butts Canyon which is absolutely worth a visit. For the duration of the warm months, highs ordinarily are in the 90's at Putah Creek. For the duration of the dark hours of
summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. High temperatures throughout the wintertime are normally in the 50's, and overnight lows at Putah Creek throughout the winter frequently fall into the 20's. A typical amount of precipitation falls here at Putah Creek; the wettest month of the year is commonly January, that's the one that rains the most; the driest month of the year is July.
