The Highway 29 to Lake Berryessa stretch of Putah Creek in California is 16 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Napa, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The campgrounds here at Putah Creek are pretty good. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This stretch
has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often tougher than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby,
you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. The Highway 29 to Lake Berryessa stretch is the only paddling stretch along Putah Creek.
Briefly about the general area: A delightful location to explore right next door to Putah Creek is Butts Canyon. Putah Creek gets a common amount of annual precipitation; January is the month that gets the most
rain, and the driest month of the year is July. All through the warm days of summer, highs mostly are in the 90's at Putah Creek. Summer night lows plunge down to the 50's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 50's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Putah Creek.
