California whitewater - Rattlesnake Creek, Coast Ranges, Mendocino County Mendocino county, US 101 to Big Bend section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS V     5 miles   This stretch of Rattlesnake Creek in Mendocino County is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V section. The nature scenery of Mendocino County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in location is a short drive from Ukiah, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful Coast Ranges scenery is an added bonus. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular     destination. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. This is the only paddling stretch along Rattlesnake Creek. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Briefly about the general area: Rattlesnake Creek is a wet spot that gets lots of precipitation; of all the months in a year December is the one with the most rain, and July meanwhile is the driest month. Near Rattlesnake Creek you discover Pedro   Opening which is a good place to stop by. For the period of the warm months at Rattlesnake Creek highs are frequently in the 80's. All through the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. Through the wintertime highs are generally in the 40's; nighttime lows during the winter for Rattlesnake Creek tend to be in the 30's.
