If you're coming from Ukiah it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The natural beauty of California and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The US 101 to Big Bend section of Rattlesnake Creek in California is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Since
you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all
set. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. This is the only paddling stretch along Rattlesnake Creek. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience.
