The wonderful California scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The Calpella to Ukiah stretch of Russian River is 8.8 miles long and it is classified as a class II     section by American Whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. The campgrounds here at Russian River are pretty good. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Calpella to Ukiah section is one of them. The Coast Ranges scenery is wonderful. Briefly about the general area: At Russian River throughout the summertime months highs are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 40's. High temperatures   during the winter are normally in the 50's while the cold winter nights at Russian River are in the 30's. Russian River sees pretty high levels of precipitation; January is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month of the year is July.
