California whitewater - Russian River, Coast Ranges, Mendocino County Mendocino county, Calpella to Ukiah section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II     8.8 miles   This might be the ugliest section of river I have ever paddled, do not waste your time.  Go to the Navarro River or Healdsberg to Wohler Bridge or better yet Utah.  California Rivers are inaccessible. The landowners rule. It is all about vineyards. No access spend your dollars elsewhere, bumming in Ukiah. The put-in location is a short drive from     Ukiah, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Calpella to Ukiah section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The Calpella to Ukiah section of Russian River in California is 8.8 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The wonderful California scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd   better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Russian River a wet spot; throughout January this area sees the most rain while July is regularly the driest month. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Russian River. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 40's. For the period of the winter this place gets highs in the 50's; night lows through the winter for Russian River tend to be in the 30's.
