The Calpella to Ukiah section of Russian River is 8.8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The nature scenery of California and the cool fresh water      have people coming here. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. The campgrounds here at Russian River are pretty good. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Russian River through the summertime are in the 80's, and the overnight is slightly colder of course, typically in the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's; night lows at   Russian River through the wintertime frequently drop into the 30's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Russian River a wet place; the month with most of the rain is January, and the driest month of the year is July.
