California whitewater - Russian River, Coast Ranges, Mendocino County
Mendocino
county,
Calpella to Ukiah section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II 8.8 miles
This might be the ugliest section of river I have ever paddled, do not waste your time. Go to the Navarro River or Healdsberg to Wohler Bridge or better yet Utah. California Rivers are inaccessible. The landowners rule. It is all about vineyards. No access spend your dollars elsewhere, bumming in Ukiah. Says Movrfit
If you're coming from Ukiah it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Russian River in Mendocino County is 8.8 miles long and it is classified as a class
II section by American Whitewater. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. There
are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Calpella to Ukiah section is one of them. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The wild scenery of the Coast Ranges is great. The beautiful scenery of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that
rivers here are less forgiving. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more.
