The wonderful Mendocino/ Sonoma County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're     not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. The wild scenery of the Coast Ranges is great. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. If you're coming from Clearlake it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Briefly about the general area: Through the months of summer here at Russian   River, high temperatures typically reach the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 50's, and nighttime lows at Russian River during the winter mostly fall into the 30's. Russian River is a rather wet place commonly with lots of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is January, and the driest month of the year is July.
