This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Box Canyon Dam to Dunsmuir section is just one of them. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The natural beauty of Siskiyou/ Shasta County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summer months at Sacramento River highs are ordinarily in the 80's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Sacramento River temperatures sink to the 20's. The amount of precipitation that falls at Sacramento River is close to the   national average; January is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is July. Box Canyon is right next door to Sacramento River and is a good spot, and a trip to Sacramento River wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Faery Falls. On a tremendous day at Sacramento River you can take a hike along the Castle Lake Trail, and a short spree to Ney Springs is always worthwhile. Coming to this river is always a good idea. The Crags Trail is a magnificent hiking trail close to Sacramento River.
