This section of Sacramento River is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Redding, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nature scenery of Siskiyou/ Shasta County and the water flowing gracefully down Sacramento River attract people from near and far. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled
as well. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often more challenging than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The campgrounds here at Sacramento River are pretty good. Getting some good
exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: This river is so good. Take a hike on the Crags Trail, and Soda Springs is always fun to check out. An average amount of rain falls at Sacramento River; January is the wettest month with most rain;
the driest month is July. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Sacramento River while night lows are regularly in the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's with temperatures at Sacramento River dipping down into the 20's through winter nights. Hiking along the Castle Lake Trail is wonderful fun; do put some time aside to spend at Soda Spring since you're here at Sacramento River.
