This section of Sacramento River in Siskiyou/ Shasta County is 5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from Redding, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. There are many good hotels
to choose from, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The scenic beauty of Siskiyou/ Shasta County and the beautiful way the water current
moves down the stream will make you feel great. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Dunsmuir to Castle Craig section is just one of many. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip.
Briefly about the general area: There is a great hiking trail in the neighborhood of Sacramento River called the Crags Trail; the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Soda Spring. Going for a hike on the Castle Lake Trail is always a great adventure, and

are frequently in the 40's; night lows throughout the winter for Sacramento River tend to be in the 20's. From a rainfall point of view Sacramento River is a quite typical spot; the month with most of the rain is January, and July is the month with the least moisture. This river is so good.
