The put-in is not too far from Redding, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section of Sacramento River is 9 miles long and is a class IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this
state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The Castle Craig to Sims Road stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. There aren’t any hotels right nearby
but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The wonderful California scenery and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far.
Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 80's to Sacramento River while overnight lows are typically in the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Sacramento River. Go for a hike on the Crags Trail, and don't leave Sacramento River without
first going for a hike along the Castle Lake Trail. The annual precipitation here at Sacramento River is about average; January is the month that gets the most rain while July is regularly the driest month.
