The beautiful scenery of California and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The Forks of Salmon to Somes Bar stretch of Salmon River in Siskiyou County is 19 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the
Forks of Salmon to Somes Bar stretch is just one of them. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. You can pitch a tent or park
your RV at a nearby campground. The beautiful Klamath Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: Salmon River is a wet place that gets a lot of rainfall; December is the wettest month with most rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Through
the days of summer highs here at Salmon River reach the 90's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 50's, and overnight lows in the 30's for Salmon River. If you're here at Salmon River, checking out Grant Bluffs is a must, and a good site is Wilson Gulch. This site, the Klamath Mountains, has so much outdoors exciting things.
