The Idlewild Campground to Sawyers Bar stretch of Salmon River is 7.9 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. The nature scenery of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section is long enough to
enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California are harder than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river

Briefly about the general area: A pleasant place to take a look at in the neighborhood of Salmon River is Little Rattlesnake Gulch; fine hiking is available along the Tanners Peak Trail. High temperatures at Salmon River during the months of summer are in the 90's, and the night is
somewhat chillier of course, mostly in the 50's. Through the winter highs are usually in the 40's; nighttime lows at Salmon River during the wintertime commonly drop into the 20's. So much entertaining stuff to do in the Klamath Mountains, not enough time. Salmon River is a good spot of typical rain; most of the rain falls during December; July on the other hand is the driest.
