The beautiful scenery of California and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Salmon River in Siskiyou County is 7.9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California tend to be
more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There's camping available near Salmon River. This section
is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Idlewild Campground to Sawyers Bar section is just one of many. The Klamath Mountains scenery is wonderful.
Briefly about the general area: Salmon River is a good location of normal rainfall; the month with most of the rain is December while July is ordinarily the driest month. Little Rattlesnake Gulch is a good place to spend some time at, and going for a hike on the Tanners Peak Trail is always
a fine adventure. So many cool things to do in the Klamath Mountains, not enough time. Summertime highs at Salmon River mostly tend to be in the 90's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's; after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Salmon River fall into the 20's.
