This stretch of Salmon River in Siskiyou County is 7.9 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The Idlewild Campground to Sawyers Bar section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. The scenic beauty of California and the playfulness of the water beats anything.     A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. Whitewater paddling here in the Klamath Mountains is a great experience. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: At Salmon River during the warm days of summer highs are in the 90's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 40's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Salmon River dip into the 20's. A pleasant location near Salmon River   is Little Rattlesnake Gulch, and on a magnificent day you can take a hike along the Tanners Peak Trail. From a precipitation point of view Salmon River is a reasonably common place; through December this area sees the most rain; July is the month with the least moisture.
