The Above and down to Mission San Antonio de Padua section of San Antonio is 10.7 miles long and has been rated as a class II section by American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The beautiful Santa Lucia Range scenery is an added bonus. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so why not pack     your camp stove too. There are no other sections to paddle along San Antonio than the Above and down to Mission San Antonio de Padua section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. Briefly about the general area: The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to San Antonio. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 60's, and during the dark   hours in the wintertime at San Antonio temperatures fall to the 30's. China Gulch is a tremendous spot to explore. San Antonio is usually a pretty dried up site; January is when you get the most rain here, and July is the month with the least moisture.
