If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book     a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wonderful Madera/Fresno County scenery and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The beauty of the Central Sierra Nevada is a great plus for this river. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Mammoth Pool Dam to Mammoth Pool Powerhouse section is just one of them. Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 80's to San Joaquin River; through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for San Joaquin River.   San Joaquin River is a wet site that gets a lot of rainfall; during the month of January you get the most rain around here while July is commonly the driest month.
