The Redinger Dam to Kerckhoff Reservoir stretch of San Joaquin River in Madera/Fresno County is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. There aren’t any hotels right     nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The natural beauty of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. The beautiful Central Sierra Nevada scenery is an added bonus. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places. Briefly about the general area: Summertime brings highs in the 80's to San Joaquin River, and through the night it   cools down to the 40's. High temperatures throughout the winter are normally in the 40's, and night lows through the winter for San Joaquin River tend to be in the 20's. San Joaquin River generally gets much rainfall; the month with most of the rain is January, and July is the month with the least moisture.
