The scenic beauty of California and the water flowing gracefully down San Joaquin River beats anything. The Kerckhoff Reservoir to Millerton Reservoir stretch of San Joaquin River is 11 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you've     been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Kerckhoff Reservoir to Millerton Reservoir stretch is just one of them. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Sierra Nevada is a great experience. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. Briefly   about the general area: San Joaquin River usually gets lots of rain; January is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month is July. At San Joaquin River all through the summer months highs are in the 80's; the night is somewhat chillier of course, regularly in the 40's. Throughout the winter highs are usually in the 40's; overnight lows in the 20's for San Joaquin River.
