  This stretch of San Joaquin River in Fresno-Madera County is 1.9 miles long and has been rated as a class IV+ section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Madera, as you can see on the road map further down. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Kerchoff #1 PH to Kerchoff #2 section is just one of them. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This is a short paddling stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The scenic beauty of California and the water flowing gracefully
    down San Joaquin River have people coming here. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often tougher than elsewhere, so keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. Some people
prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.

During the summertime months highs here at San Joaquin River reach the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. Highs through the wintertime are usually in the 40's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at San Joaquin River drop into the 20's. San Joaquin River
 
gets lots of water; the wettest month of the year is frequently January, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month of the year is July.
No need to travel far to pop by interesting stuff like Squaw Leap.
