The Bridge over Piute Creek to Florence Lake section of San Joaquin River - South Fork in Fresno/ Madera County is 14 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section. The nature scenery of Fresno/ Madera County and the water flowing gracefully down San Joaquin River - South Fork are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter,
so why not pack your sleeping bag too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There's camping available near San Joaquin River - South Fork. Since you're
on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California are harder than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The beautiful Central Sierra Nevada scenery is an added bonus.
