The Florence Lake to Mono Hot Springs section of San Joaquin River - South Fork is 7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting     and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Sierra Nevada is a great experience. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come.
