If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is the only     paddling stretch along Santa Margarita River. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This section of Santa Margarita River is 9 miles long and it is classified as a class IV(V) section by American Whitewater. The beauty of the Santa Ana Mountains is a great plus for this river. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other places. Briefly about the general area: Not much precipitation falls here at Santa Margarita River; the month of February is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest of the months is June. High temperatures at Santa Margarita River throughout the warmest time of the year are in the 90's, and the overnight   is rather chillier of course, commonly in the 60's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 60's, and all through the dark hours in the wintertime at Santa Margarita River temperatures drop to the 30's.
