Ventura
county,
Lion Campground to Highway 126 bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V 31.5 miles
The Lion Campground to Highway 126 bridge stretch of Sespe Creek is 31.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good places for that around
here. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are campgrounds quite
near the river where you can camp. Now this is a pretty long section, so it looks like you will be camping out. The river winds through the Sierra Madre and you get great scenery. The scenic beauty of California and the water flowing gracefully down Sespe Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There are no other sections to paddle along Sespe Creek than the Lion Campground to Highway 126 bridge section.
Briefly about the general area: A nice location next to Sespe Creek is East Fork Santa Paula Canyon, and a short journey
