The wonderful California scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. When you're paddling down a Siskiyou Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The Highway 263 bridge to Klamath River stretch of Shasta River is 6.8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking,
either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. There are nice comfortable hotels here, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so
if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There are no other sections to paddle along Shasta River than the Highway 263 bridge to Klamath River section.
Briefly about the general area: A trip to Dry Gulch is always fun, and do put some time aside to spend at Iron Trough Spring since you're here at Shasta River. Around Shasta River you don’t get a lot of rain; December is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest of the months
is July. The warmest time of the year at Shasta River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's while overnight lows are regularly in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Shasta River plunge into
the 20's. And that's not all you can do here in the Siskiyou Mountains. A trip to Silvas Spring will fill your spirit with glorious feelings.
