This stretch of Shasta River in California is 6.8 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The beauty of the Siskiyou Mountains is a great plus for this
river. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. The beautiful scenery of Siskiyou County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons
enough to come here to paddle. There are no other stretches to paddle along Shasta River than the Highway 263 bridge to Klamath River stretch. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: So many entertaining things to do here in the Siskiyou Mountains, too pleasant to be true. Iron Trough Spring is an inspiring place to have a look at while you're here. A short journey to Silvas Spring is always worthwhile; nearby you locate pleasant
locations like Dry Gulch. Shasta River is a location that is reasonably dry regularly; of all the months in a year December is the one with the most rain; July is the month with the least moisture. Summer at Shasta River comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer overnight
lows fall down to the 50's. Highs all through the wintertime are mostly in the 40's while Shasta River nighttime low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 20's.
