The 6 Miles Above Patrick Creek to South Fork Road section of Smith River - Middle Fork in California is 22 miles long and has been rated as a class II-V section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Del Norte County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. Great exercise and just hanging out
with mother nature will have you coming back for more. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your sleeping bag. The
rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The starting location is a short drive from Crescent City North, as you can see on the road map further down. The river winds through the Coast Ranges and you get great scenery.
