The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often more challenging than in other states, so don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The beauty of the Coast Ranges is a great plus for this river. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance

Briefly about the general area:
Smith River - Middle Fork gets a great deal of water; most of the rain falls during December, and July is when it's the driest. Going for a hike along the French Hill Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood; some interesting geology is available here, Danger Point is right here.
At Smith River - Middle Fork all through the warm months highs are in the 60's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 50's with temperatures at Smith River - Middle Fork dipping down into the 40's throughout winter nights. All year is a pleasant time in the Coast Ranges if you have a thing about the outdoors. Hiking along the Elk Camp Ridge Trail is splendid fun.
