The wonderful California scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Smith River - North Fork attract people from near and far. The starting point is not too far from Crescent City North, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Low Divide Road to Gasquet section of Smith River - North Fork in Del Norte County is 13 miles long and is a class III-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here
don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t
have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Coast Ranges scenery is wonderful. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other spots. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too.

in the 40's. Peridotite Canyon is near Smith River - North Fork and is a brilliant place, and the French Hill Trail is a brilliant hiking trail close by. Life's too short to enjoy all the exciting stuff in the Coast Ranges. Near Smith River - North Fork you come across the Elk Camp Ridge Trail which is a good hiking trail.
