The starting location is a reasonable drive from Crescent City North, as you can see on the road map further down. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The scenic beauty of Del Norte County and the playfulness of the water have people coming
here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The river winds through the
Coast Ranges and you get great scenery. The Low Divide Road to Gasquet section of Smith River - North Fork in Del Norte County is 13 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-V section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. The Low Divide Road to Gasquet stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system.
