The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. If you're coming from Modesto it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a     one day trip. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is the only paddling stretch along Stanislaus River. The Goodwin Dam to Knights Ferry section of Stanislaus River is 4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV(V) section. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more.
