  The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Phoenix Lake-Cedar Ridge, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section of Stanislaus River - Middle Fork is 13 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California are harder than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The wonderful Tuolumne County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip
    here worthwhile. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Baker Campground to Donnells Lake section is just one of them. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. Since you're on this site you are probably
into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. When you're paddling down a Central Sierra Nevada river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping  
in your car.
