This section of Thomes Creek in California is 22 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V+ section of whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Tehama County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The wild scenery of the Klamath Mountains is great. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are
often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The Above Paskenta stretch is the only paddling stretch along Thomes Creek. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you
come because it is a very popular destination. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places.
Briefly about the general area: At Thomes Creek through the months of summer highs are in the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 40's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's while Thomes Creek nighttime low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 20's. You just can't imagine the amount
of outdoors exciting stuff the Klamath Mountains has to offer. A pleasant place in close proximity to Thomes Creek is Whiskey Saddle, and a short journey to Government Spring is always worthwhile. The yearly rain here at Thomes Creek is about average; of all the months in a year January is the one with the most rain while July is usually the driest month.
