Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The Hearst Road to Eel River stretch of Tomki Creek in California is 9.3 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Mendocino County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. This is the only paddling section along Tomki Creek. Some     people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The wild scenery of the Coast Ranges is great.
