California whitewater - Truckee River, Northern Sierra Nevada, Nevada/ Sierra/ Washoe County
Nevada/ Sierra/ Washoe
county,
Farad Powerhouse to Verdi section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III 8 miles
I believe this stretch is from Boca to Floriston Says Randall B
The Farad Powerhouse to Verdi stretch of Truckee River in Nevada/ Sierra/ Washoe County is 8 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The natural beauty of Nevada/ Sierra/ Washoe County and the beautiful way the water current
moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. If you're coming from Reno-Sparks it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further
down. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other places for that. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Farad Powerhouse to Verdi stretch is just one of many. The Northern Sierra Nevada
scenery is wonderful. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip.
Briefly about the general area: A brilliant location in the neighborhood of Truckee River is Deep Canyon, and the Mount Rose Trail is a tremendous hiking
trail close by. During the days of summer highs here at Truckee River get into the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 40's. Highs through the wintertime are commonly in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Truckee River.
Truckee River gets very little rainfall; January is when you get the most rain here, and August is when it's the driest. So many enjoyable things to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada, not enough time.
