This stretch of Tuolumne River in California is 9 miles long and is a class IV-V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The wonderful California scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great
attractions for lots of people. The campgrounds here at Tuolumne River are pretty good. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting
or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The wild scenery of the Central Sierra Nevada is great. The put-in location is a short drive from Phoenix Lake-Cedar Ridge, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
Briefly about the general area: Through the summertime highs here at Tuolumne River reach the 80's; the overnight is quite colder of course, ordinarily in the 50's. Daytime highs during
the wintertime are in the 40's, and overnight lows in the 20's for Tuolumne River. Hunter Bend is something you shouldn't miss while you're here at Tuolumne River, and do take a hike on the Pilot Ridge Trail. Tuolumne River gets a large amount of water; through the month of
January you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is July. There's no way anybody can get bored here in the Central Sierra Nevada.
