Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. If you're coming from Phoenix Lake-Cedar Ridge it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The natural beauty of California and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There are a few other stretches in this river system that
can be paddled as well. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The beauty of the Central Sierra Nevada is a great plus for this river. This section of
Tuolumne River is 9 miles long and is a class IV-V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that.
