This section of West Walker River in California is 11 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-V section of whitewater. The campgrounds here at West Walker River are pretty good. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving.
You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Sierra Nevada is a great experience. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but
if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The wonderful Mono County scenery and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
Briefly about the general area: Go for a hike on the Lost Canyon Trail, and West Walker River is near Tollhouse Canyon which is undeniably worth a visit. West Walker River is regularly a rather arid place; throughout the month of January you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is July. Summertime
brings highs in the 80's to West Walker River. Summer nighttime lows drop down to the 50's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 40's while West Walker River overnight low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 20's. If you want a brilliant time
in the great outdoors just come on up to the Central Sierra Nevada. Don't leave West Walker River without first going for a hike along the Early Emigrant and Indian Trail.
