If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. The Highway 395 Bridge to Walker section of West Walker River is 11 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Sierra Nevada is a great experience. There are some good stretches to paddle in this
river system, the Highway 395 Bridge to Walker stretch is one of them. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You can pitch a tent or park your
RV at a nearby campground. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. The beautiful scenery of Mono County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other rivers.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at West Walker River typically tend to be in the 80's. Summer overnight lows plunge down to the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are usually
in the 40's while West Walker River nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the 20's. This spot, the Central Sierra Nevada, has so much outdoors cool stuff. Tollhouse Canyon is near West Walker River and is a great place, and don't leave West Walker River without
first going for a hike along the Lost Canyon Trail. At West Walker River you don’t see much rainfall; the month with most of the rain is January; the driest month is July.
