This section of Willow Creek in California is 3 miles long and has been rated as a class V section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of California and the water flowing gracefully down Willow Creek attract people from near and far. The put-in location is a short drive from Madera, as you can see on the road map further down. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around
here you'll find a large number of good spots. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that
many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Sierra Nevada is a great experience. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Chilkoot Campground to Bass Lake section is one of them.
Briefly about the general area: There's no way somebody can get bored here in the Central
Sierra Nevada. While you're here at Willow Creek you have to explore Willow Cove; a journey to Willow Creek wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Angle Falls. The yearly rain here at Willow Creek is about average; January is when you get the most rain here; the driest of
the months is July. Throughout the months of summer at Willow Creek temperatures are usually in the 80's while overnight lows are regularly in the 40's. Through the winter the highs are mostly in the 40's; overnight lows during the wintertime for Willow Creek tend to be in
the 20's. This river is always fun. A short trip to Devils Slide is always worthwhile, and you simply should go to Slick Rock while you're here at Willow Creek.
