The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Truckee-Grass Valley, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nature scenery of California and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. The river winds through the Northern Sierra Nevada and you get great scenery. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. This river system is full of great paddling
sections, the Plumago Crossing to Route 49 section is just one of them. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. There aren’t
any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. The Plumago Crossing to Route 49 section of Yuba River - Middle Fork in Sierra/ Nevada/ Yuba County is 22 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
