The Wild Plum Campground to Downieville section of Yuba River - North Fork in Sierra County is 13 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. The beautiful scenery of Sierra County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if
you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your sleeping bag. The starting point is not too far from Truckee-Grass Valley, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If
you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. The river winds through the Northern Sierra Nevada and you get great scenery. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more.
