The beautiful scenery of California and the water flowing gracefully down Yuba River - South Fork make the trip here worthwhile. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater paddling here in the Northern Sierra Nevada is a great experience. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. The put-in is not too far from
Truckee-Grass Valley, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around
here you'll find a large number of good places. This stretch of Yuba River - South Fork in Nevada County is 14 miles long and is a class IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Lodging is available near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: This is such a great river. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Yuba River - South Fork, and the overnight is a bit colder of course,
regularly in the 50's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's with temperatures at Yuba River - South Fork dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors enjoyable stuff the Northern Sierra Nevada has
to offer. Nearby Missouri Canyon is a brilliant spot to go if you're at Yuba River - South Fork, and close by you locate the Humbug Trail which is a great hiking trail. Yuba River - South Fork regularly gets lots of precipitation; January is when you get the most rain here while
July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Going for a hike on the Lafayette Ridge Trail is always a good adventure, and a cool spot to explore is Pleasant Point.
