The Washington to Edwards Crossing stretch of Yuba River - South Fork is 14 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV section. The wonderful Nevada County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting location is a short drive from Truckee-Grass Valley, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable.
If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Washington to Edwards Crossing section is just one of many. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came.
The wild scenery of the Northern Sierra Nevada is great. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camp stove.
Briefly about the general area: This river is so wonderful. A good deal of rain falls at Yuba River - South Fork; January is when you get the most rain here, and July on the other hand is the
driest. Just can't get enough of the Northern Sierra Nevada. Missouri Canyon is a nice place to discover, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Yuba River - South Fork; Humbug Trail is a wonderful local trail. Pleasant Point is a brilliant spot to have a look at while
in the vicinity, and the Lafayette Ridge Trail offers hiking at its best. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Yuba River - South Fork, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Through the winter highs are generally in the 40's, and nighttime lows at Yuba River - South Fork through the wintertime generally sink into the 20's.
