Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The scenic beauty of unknown County and the sparkling
of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Animas River is 10 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and
pack your camp stove.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of precipitation makes Animas River a reasonably wet spot; September is when you get the most rain here while May is the month with the least amount of precipitation. For the duration of the summertime months highs here at Animas River get into the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 70's. The winter comes with highs in the 80's, and nighttime lows in the 70's for Animas River.
