This section of Animas River is 6.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Colorado and the water flowing gracefully down Animas River have people coming here. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The average Colorado whitewater rafting     or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the 32nd St. Park to Purple Cliffs stretch is just one of them. Briefly about the general area: Horse Gulch is a tremendous place to go to nearby, and you'll meet a lot of people from Durango here. Not much rainfall falls here at Animas River; all through the month of August you get the most rain   around here, and the driest of the months is June. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Animas River, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Animas River.
