The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. The wild scenery of the Sawatch Range is great. The nearby hotels are a bit away     from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Leadville to Granite section is just one of them. This stretch of Arkansas River in Lake/ Chaffee County is 18 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Arkansas River all through the long summer days are in the 70's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 30's. All through the winter this place gets highs in the 20's with winter lows in the-10's overnight here at Arkansas River.
