The natural beauty of Chaffee County and the water flowing gracefully down Arkansas River will make you feel great. No shortage of good hotels, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whitewater rafting and     kayaking in Colorado is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: At Arkansas River through the summer months highs are in the 70's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 40's. Throughout the winter highs are generally in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Arkansas River. Good hiking is available along the Wheeler Trail. What would winter be without some skiing at Copper Mountain, and while   you're here, you might as well check out Rose Gulch. It is very dried out here at Arkansas River ordinarily; most of the rain falls through July while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
