The put-in location is a short drive from Silverthorne, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The natural beauty of Chaffee County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good
places for that around here. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. There are some good hotels near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a pretty decent
length section, it's good length for a morning trip. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Numbers Launch to Railroad Bridge Launch stretch of Arkansas River in Colorado is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV section.
Briefly about the general area: Not much precipitation falls here at Arkansas River; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
During the warm months at Arkansas River highs are commonly in the 70's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Arkansas River temperatures descend to the 0's. Have a nice hiking adventure
along the Wheeler Trail. Gotta ski! Copper Mountain is a delightful location to do that, and close by Rose Gulch is a great spot to go.
