  The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The beautiful scenery of Colorado and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch of Arkansas River is 18.7 miles long and has been
    rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Highway Stone Bridge to Rincon stretch is just one of many. You can enjoy this section more if you take
your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that.

Bails Gulch is a great spot to spend some time at; there are plenty of folks from Salida here. Going for a hike on the Simmons Peak Trail is always a good adventure, and you can go for a hike on the Round Hill Trail. Lots of fun awaits you along this river. Throughout the warm days of summer at Arkansas River temperatures are mostly in the 80's, and the overnight is somewhat cooler of course, commonly in the 40's. Highs throughout the winter are frequently in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Arkansas River are in the 0's. Arkansas River is a location that is rather waterless generally.
