Colorado whitewater - Arkansas River, Front Range, Chaffee/Fremont County Chaffee/Fremont county, Highway Pinnacle Rock Launch to Parkdale Launch section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III     8.7 miles   The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The put-in is not too far from Canon City, as you can see on the road map further down. The Highway Pinnacle Rock Launch to Parkdale Launch stretch of Arkansas River in Chaffee/Fremont County is 8.7 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Some     people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other spots for that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. The beauty of the Front Range is a great plus for this river. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The natural beauty of Chaffee/Fremont County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: At Arkansas River all through the summertime months highs are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge   down into the 40's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Arkansas River are in the-10's. Sulphur Gulch is a delightful location to explore. Arkansas River is a location that is rather dried out typically; the wettest month of the year is mostly July, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is January.
