Colorado whitewater - Arkansas River, Front Range, Chaffee/Fremont County Chaffee/Fremont county, Highway Pinnacle Rock Launch to Parkdale Launch section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III     8.7 miles   This section of Arkansas River in Chaffee/Fremont County is 8.7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often more challenging than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The natural beauty of Chaffee/Fremont County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Canon City, there's a road map further     down the page with more info on that. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. The Highway Pinnacle Rock Launch to Parkdale Launch section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The Front Range scenery is wonderful. Briefly about the general area: Sulphur Gulch is next to Arkansas River and is a magnificent location.   Arkansas River is ordinarily a quite waterless location; the month with most of the rain is July, and the driest month of the year is January. For the duration of the warm months, highs frequently are in the 70's at Arkansas River. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 40's. For the period of the winter highs are frequently in the 20's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Arkansas River sink into the-10's.
