The starting point is not too far from Canon City, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater paddling here in the Front Range is a great experience. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here.     There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. This section of Arkansas River is 9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. The beautiful scenery of Fremont County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. Briefly about the general area: It is very dehydrated here at Arkansas River generally; July is the month that gets the most rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Front Range. For the period of the summer   months here at Arkansas River, high temperatures commonly get into the 70's. During the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 40's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 20's, and night lows in the-10's for Arkansas River. Arkansas River is in a fine location in the shadow of the Grand Canyon Hills, and this is a popular place for folks from Canon City.
