If you're coming from Canon City it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The beautiful scenery of Fremont County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The wild scenery of the Front Range is great. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The Parkdale Launch to Canon City stretch of Arkansas River is 9 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according
to American Whitewater. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you
don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots.
