This section of Arkansas River in Colorado is 9 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Colorado and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Parkdale Launch
to Canon City stretch is one of them. If you're coming from Canon City it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general
area you won't find many other paddling rivers. The campgrounds here at Arkansas River are pretty good. When you're paddling down a Front Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy.
