This stretch of Blue River in Colorado is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. If you're coming from Silverthorne it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often tougher than elsewhere,
so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. For all you
camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The beautiful scenery of Summit County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The Park Range scenery is wonderful. This is a short paddling stretch so better bring some good walking shoes.
Briefly about the general area: Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Park Range. Erwin Gulch is a great place to spend some time at, and magnificent hiking is available along the Slate Creek
Trail. Blue River gets very little rainfall; through the month of August you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is February. For the period of the summertime months highs here at Blue River reach the 80's while nighttime lows are mostly in the 40's. The winter
comes with highs in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the-10's to Blue River. Interesting geology is available here; Target Bluff is near Blue River; you can go for a hike on the Gore Range Trail. This river has it all.
