This stretch of Blue River in Summit/ Grand County is 3.8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. The put-in location is a short drive from Silverthorne, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The nature scenery of Summit/ Grand County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming
from far and near. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Green Mountain Reservoir to Spring Creek Road section is one of them. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill
up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater paddling here in the Park Range is a great experience. The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
Briefly about the general area: Blue River is typically a relatively waterless site; during August this area
sees the most rain; February is when it's the driest. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Blue River; Surprise Trail is a magnificent local trail, and you could always look at Miller Gulch. All the outdoors amusing things in the Park Range will keep you coming back again
and again. There's great hiking along the Eaglesmere Trail. High temperatures at Blue River all through the months of summer are in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 40's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 20's; after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Blue River dip into the-10's.
