Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The starting point is not too far from Fort Collins-Loveland, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of Larimer County     and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The beauty of the Medicine Bow Mountains is a great plus for this river. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: Man, is there a lot of cool things to do in the Medicine Bow Mountains. The Mount McConnel Trail is a nice hiking trail right next door to Cache La Poudre River. Near Cache La   Poudre River you hit upon the Kreutzer Nature Trail which is a good hiking trail, and you could always explore Buck Gulch. Around Cache La Poudre River you don’t get a lot of rainfall; most of the rain falls through July, and the driest month is December. During the months of summer at Cache La Poudre River highs are mostly in the 70's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's with temperatures at Cache La Poudre River dipping down into the 0's throughout winter nights.
