The starting location is a reasonable drive from Fort Collins-Loveland, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of Colorado and the water flowing gracefully down Cache La Poudre River make the trip here worthwhile. This section of Cache La Poudre River is 3 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. Not too many
hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.
If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The river winds through the Medicine Bow Mountains and you get great scenery. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: All year is a splendid time in the Medicine Bow Mountains if you fancy the outdoors. Don't leave Cache La Poudre River without first going for a hike along the
Greyrock Trail. Around Cache La Poudre River you don’t get a lot of rain; throughout the month of July you get the most rain around here while December is commonly the driest month. For the duration of the summer months, highs mostly are in the 70's at Cache La Poudre River,
and through the night it cools down to the 40's. Throughout the winter the highs are mostly in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Cache La Poudre River. Good hiking is available along the Wintersteen Trail, and Falls Gulch is also a splendid place to look at.
