The wonderful Larimer County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch of Cache La Poudre River - North Fork is 9 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Cherokee Park Road to Halligan section is just one of them. The river winds through the Medicine Bow Mountains and you get great scenery. The campgrounds here at Cache La Poudre River - North Fork are pretty good. Getting some good
exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The starting point is not too far from Fort Collins-Loveland,
as you can see on the road map further down. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy.
